Storybirds

Today I want to introduce you to a story publishing site called Storybird.  Here, you can choose a set of artwork and write a story to go with it.  Login in with your name (first and last, no space, no capitals), and your password is your student ID number.

Click on create and search until you find a group of artwork that you like.  If you would like more choices, click on "See more Art."  When you have chosen the art, click on "Start a Storybird."  Here, you will be able to add text.

Today, your assignment is to explore this site.  We will use Storybird later in the year, and this will help you in practicing to use it.

Please comment to tell me something about the storybird you created.

Have fun!

Thankfulness

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. ~William Arthur Ward

If a fellow isn't thankful for what he's got, he isn't likely to be thankful for what he's going to get. ~Frank A. Clark

Silent gratitude isn't much use to anyone. ~G.B. Stern

1.  Choose one of the quotes above.  Explain what the quote means to you.
2.  What are the things that you are most thankful for?

Last week, many of you visited Biblionasium to set up your virtual bookshelves.  However, no one commented about how you thought it might help you in your reading.  This week, we will practice making comments.  To make a comment, click on the comment link at the bottom of this post.  Please tell us what book you are reading and a little bit of what it is about.  If you have time, please go back to the previous post and respond with your thinking about Biblionasium.   Feel free to make comments on your classmates' posts as well.

Welcome to Pirate Readers!

Welcome to the Pirate Readers classroom blog!  Here, you will find a weekly assignment to complete and a place to discuss your thinking with your classmates.  When you post, please use your first name only - no last name!  Your comments will be sent to me first before they are published, so please keep them appropriate.

The first thing that I would like you to try is a website called Biblionasium.  I would like you to use your time today to check it out.  Click on Members Sign-In.  Your username is your first and last name (no space, no capital letters), and your password is your student ID (lunch) number.  Take a tour of the site.  You will find my bookshelves of recommended and favorite books.  You can build your own bookshelf of your favorites.  Please select at least three to add to your bookshelf.  Then, return to the blog and comment about how you think this site could help you in reading this year.  You may also respond to your classmates' comments.
